Hello loves~
I'm just going to tell you where I went in Penang. As for pictures, please go check my Facebook.
Owh wait..did you all even know I went to Penang? Well, if you didn't, you know now.
Saturday, 2nd July 2011, I left home to meet up with the Lims, Lees and Foos at Manda's place. A total of 13 people in 4 cars, departed for Ipoh at 9.30am..I think. Sorry, I was half asleep still. =D
Went to Ipoh for hor fun and dry curry mee. It was pretty good..or maybe because we were hungry. Then drove up to Penang. Was supposed to stop a little before Penang for some duck leg pau but there was an unexpected jam due to 2 overturned lorries. Delayed our plans so we decided to skip that meal.
Reached Penang and went straight for some market place. Ate ban chien kueh, duck noodles, lobak, popiah, char kuey teow, otak otak, curry laksa, bakua, rojak, roast pork. Food sucked, environment sucked, only the ban chien kueh was pretty good. Next stop was New World for ice kacang, which came out in the newspaper before. Ice kacang and cendol sucked. Nobody finished it at all. Also tried the ochien and asam laksa which was equally as bad.
On the way to the hotel, we stopped by the roadside to buy some apong which came out in the newspapers as well. Waited really long but it wasn't worth the wait. Sorry, but it was like a normal pancake with banana and some coconut and corn. Finally, hotel!
We stayed at ShangRi La Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, which was probably the highlight of this whole trip. I love the hotel to the core of my heart! The place was cozy, the room was so homely, the toilet was gorgeous, the view was amazing, the service was fantastic and the breakfast was delicious! RM450+ per night but worth every single cent. No exaggerations. Anyway, walked around the hotel abit, took a nice shower and then headed for dinner.
Things didn't go well as it started pouring. We were supposed to go for some famous food but because these old shops were on lower grounds, the roads were flooded. It started with a flash flood when we were searching for parkings and it floated cars after the few rounds we turned. It was pretty scary. I could feel the car floating a little as we move. The water rose to almost half the car tyres so we retreated to higher grounds. Ended up eating at Old Green House. I was really tired and wasn't even feeling hungry anymore. The bah kut teh and har mee was famous there. Also ordered clams, curry mee, some others which I don't remember.
Went back to hotel and practically died on the bed. Woke up early for hotel breakfast! I'm a huge fan of hotel breakfasts, if you didn't know. Ate quite alot because I actually woke up due to hunger. LOL.
Then rested for 30 minutes before heading out for food. Went for kuey teow tng. Then Penang Road Famous Cendol, which tasted so much better than the previous day's one. Asam laksa and pai tee. Next stop was Sister's char kuey teow. Finally, some decent food. After eating so much sucky food, the char kuey teow was on a totally different level. Its not that its exceptionally good but after all that, it tasted pretty heavenly. Back to hotel to rest.
Everyone went for a swim. It was nice since its been a long time since the cousins had gathered together in a pool. Wanted to do some water sport but the sun was scorching hot so we decided to just chill in the pool. Bathe and out for dinner.
Dinner was at a decent restaurant instead of hawker food. CRC Restaurant, packed with people, looks decent, but the food was pretty tasteless. It looked good but compared to restaurant food in KL, total failure. I'm not going to name all the food so just go to my Facebook and see for yourself. After dinner, we went to check out Hard Rock Hotel, which was supposed to be our first choice for hotels. Checked out the place and then headed for some drinks in the club.
Been awhile since I drank. Finally broke my non-alcoholic year that night..owh wait..thats not my first alcohol intake this year..err..owh well. Had some drinks, listened to the band and then back to hotel to sleep. Day 3, last day. Hotel breakfast in the morning, then packed up, checked out and headed for food. Really hated that I had to leave the hotel..I didn't want to leave at all. =(
Oon Swee Hoe chicken/duck noodles. The best meal of the whole trip! The soup was delicious. Also had curry laksa and lobak which was also pretty good. Went to buy tau sar peah and then food again. Curry fish head, prawn curry, crab, tauge, chicken, pork bla bla bla. Love the curry because it was spicy enough. Its been a long time since I've eaten something that was spicy enough~
That was it. Basically, it was a good breather and a great get together among the family members. We've always had once a year family trip since young but as we grow older, the cousins start to disperse and its even harder now to get everyone together since some are studying abroad and some are working already. Like this trip itself, my brother couldn't join because hes in Singapore and can't come back because he can't take leave. Probably the next time we go for a whole family trip would be end of the year.
This eating trip turned out to be a total failure. For the first time out of all our eating trips, we were met with alot of unexpected incidents such as the jam and the rain. Missed out on all the good food and ate alot of unnecessary bad food that actually came out in the newspaper. Hello mr reporter, are you sure your tastebuds are okay??
But then again, maybe its because we have been eating so much good food all the time that our tastebuds are of a higher standard already. However, the holiday was a really enjoyable one. Stirs up my travel passion once again though. =/
Love lots.
