10th December 2011: Singapore's Pink Ocean Embraces 9 Angels

I promised a proper review. So here I am. All are based on Day 2 concert and I picked out certain songs only because I realised that if I talked about every song in the setlist, I would be repeating myself over and over with the words 'gorgeous', 'beautiful', 'amazing'.

Here goes!

'The Boys'

I remember listening to this song at first and I was like..WHUT?! This song was released in Korean and English. It portrayed a totally different Girls' Generation. The English version marked their debut in the US music industry. The girls performed the English version during the concert and I take back all my words regarding how I don't like this song.

Watching it live made all the difference. I'm sure nothing beats the MAMA 2011 remix version but the normal version was also a sight to be seen. It was strong and powerful and all the long notes from Taeyeon, Seohyun and Jessica were perfection.

'Devil's Cry + Run Devil Run'

This was one of my favourite parts of the concert. Taeyeon sang her lungs out to Devil's Cry as an introduction to Run Devil Run. And OMG, you have to watch the fancam! Eventhough the fancam doesn't do her justice but OMG I'm telling you, her rock blood totally took over and it was beyond amazing. The feeling of total awe I felt was like seeing Onew performing 'Nessun Dorma' live. Thats the best way to describe it because both, do not do full justice to the performer on fancams and is just beyond godlike when witnessing it live.

The girls performed a different version of Run Devil Run, which incorporated the legendary first generation idols, Shinhwa's T.O.P in the middle of the song. It was a really creative way to change the song because it matched really well. If you have not listened to RDR before, you may even be fooled to think that it was part of the song.

'Into The New World'

Their debut song. The song that boasts the amazing coordination of nine. Just like SHINee's debut song 'Noona Neomu Yeppeo Replay', SNSD debuted with a song that proves that they are ready to take on the world. Sleek dance moves and pure vocals, 9 girls from different backgrounds take their first step into making their dreams come true. It was slightly disappointing that this song wasn't the one that shot the girls to fame but everyone would have to agree with me that this is the one song that Sones want to witness live.

And I witnessed it live. TWICE! Seeing them perform this song right infront of my eyes made me think of how much they have changed, how far they have come. Besides SHINee, SNSD was the only other group I really paid attention too. And to be able to see how they grow up and mature, in terms of vocals and looks, is really amazing.

'Danny Boy'

Sunny, Tiffany, Jessica, Seohyun and Taeyeon covered 'Danny Boy' and the harmony of all 5 of them were heaven to my ears. Watch the fancam and you will understand 50% of what I was listening to. The live performance was beyond words.

'Complete'

If you didn't already read about the fan event on my previous post, I will tell you about it again. We were supposed to hold up a piece of paper that says 'So Nyeo Shi Dae makes our lives complete' at the end of the song. In the middle of the song, some of them got confused and held it up, so everyone else followed. It was such a beautiful sight because not only were the ones in mosh pits holding it, the whole stadium held the same piece of paper at the same time. And the girls were on the verge of tears. I cried. Even watching the fancam now, I can still cry.

The girls came out again after the song and asked us to show them the paper again. They said that 'Sones makes So Nyeo Shi Dae's lives complete'. =')

You see SG Shawols, you should regret it when you shot down my idea of holding up a paper with a hand drawn heart during SWCSG just because you were afraid of being blocked for a few seconds. You see how Sones made it amazing? It was all your fault for disregarding my awesome idea. Tsk.

Solo Stages

Solo stages were divided into two categories; sexy and innocent. I preferred the innocent ones over the sexy performances. You can google who performed what yourself. I'm going to just mention the ones that left a strong impression.

Firstly, Taeyeon and Tiffany's duet of cabaret 'Lady Marmalade'. Sex kittens on the prowl! The performance was sexy, playful, confident and it showed a wide range of strong vocals altogether. And they can turn any straight girl gay. (No, I'm still very much into guys because Minho is too smexy to give up on)

Jessica covered 'Almost', sweeping us off our feets with her beautiful vocals topped with her playing the piano at the beginning. It was my favourite out of all the solo stages. It was a really beautiful performance and her vocals filled with emotions just melted me.

Seohyun performed 'Stuff Like That There' showing her vocals and tap dance skills. It was entertaining. It was like watching a musical. And I always have this weird feeling when watching Seohyun sing. Shes so young but her voice is so powerful and deep that it amazes me.

The other solo stage that left a great impression on me was Sooyoung's cover of Michael Buble's 'Sway'. The really attractive point is that she was latin dancing while singing the song. I'm not a professional when it comes to dance names but yea, latin dance sounds appropriate. And her legs are so amazingly long and she was just stunning! STUNNINGLY STUNNING! She took my breathe away, nuff' said.

Summary; The Good and The Bad

The concert was amazing. We laughed, we cried, we sang, we screamed, we spazzed. The girls are all gorgeous. I used to think Hyoyeon was not pretty (sorry Sones) but I was proven wrong when I saw her in the flesh. She is really pretty! It was also nice when the Sones I was with chanted 'Kibum Kibum', 'SHINee SHINee' and 'Taemin Taemin' during the TaeKey video intermission. I was really happy it could happen at a Soshi solo concert and to have Sones do it, thank you. =)

I got to see the girls' dorky sides and Taeyeon's ahjumma laugh and Tiffany's gorgeous eyesmile. I saw Im choding and Kim choding. I witnessed Sunny's aegyo (and almost died, please read my previous post!). Seohyun was so cute and Sooyoung was fly kissing everywhere. Jessica pout and sexy Yuri!

The downside would be that the concert setlist was adapted from the Japan Arena Tour setlist, with a few changes here and there. Which means that they performed alot of their songs from their first Japanese album. And some of the songs, they performed in the Korean version which was never released so it was basically, my first time listening to it. It was a pity that they sang 'Let It Rain' in Korean because I memorized the Japanese version so I couldn't sing along during the concert.

Another downside is they didn't perform alot of ballads, which was disappointing. As much as I enjoy their dance tracks, I really love their ballads. The harmony among them 9 and the sweet distinct vocals of each member was something I really looked forward to. And there were a tad bit too many video intermissions.

Other than that, the concert was amazing.
